USSSA East: Saving Second Base, Think Pink!
USSSA East: Saving Second Base
Pasadena, MD – During the weekend of October 6 & 7, 114 teams converged on Central Maryland and the Lower Eastern Shore to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Because of the players, coaches, and parents, USSSA East could once again make a donation to support multiple local breast cancer charities.
The USSSA Save Second Base Tournament is in its 7th year of raising funds by contributing a portion of team entry fees, collecting donations and selling breast cancer awareness merchandise where 100% of proceeds are contributed. This year, the teams did not disappoint, wearing custom pink jerseys, socks, and bows to show support of the cause.
This year’s beneficiaries include Women Supporting Women and the Aiello Breast Cancer at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
On November 2nd, 2018, USSSA East presented a check for $2,500 to Women Supporting Women. They are a support organization located on the Lower Eastern Shore. This grass roots organization began providing awareness, support and education to the Delmarva Peninsula in 1993. They have grown from holding meetings in the waiting room of the Radiation Department of the Peninsula Regional Medical Center, to being able to reach out to the community at locations in Pocomoke, Ocean City, Cambridge, as well as their home office in Salisbury.
On November 13th, 2018 USSSA East presented a check for $7,500 to the Aiello Breast Center at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Washington Medical Center. The Aiello Breast Center provides comprehensive care to women and men who experience breast problems, breast cancer and breast disease. Their focus is on prevention, early detention, treatment and supportive services for their patients. The Aiello Breast Center is one of the first breast centers in Maryland to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program of the American College Surgeons.
Sine 2011, the USSSA Save Second Base Tournament has generated more than $52,000 in donations for several local charities that assist those with breast cancer.
