Columbia, MD – Maryland USSSA Baseball kicked off the 2018 season with a bang on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 by hosting the very first event on two brand new artificial turf baseball diamonds at Blandair Regional Park in Columbia, Maryland.“It is an honor for our program to be a part of the opening of this brand new beautiful, state of the art facility in Howard County Maryland! We look forward to giving many USSSA teams the opportunity to compete here at Blandair Regional Park in the future,” said Tim Wickstrom, Tournament Director.
The event was a National Qualifier and featured teams from Maryland and Virginia competing in 11U, 12U and 14U age divisions. It was one of the earliest season baseball events ever hosted in Maryland by USSSA. Use of the artificial turf made it possible to get teams on the field much sooner than usual.
Maryland USSSA Director of Program Operations Andy Wisk notes that “we are thrilled to bring several USSSA Baseball events to Maryland in 2018. This gives our teams the opportunity to compete and qualify for national events while also seeing how they stack up both on the field and in national rankings against teams around the region and around the country.”
Maryland USSSA Baseball has a series of events scheduled in the Central Maryland Region throughout the 2018 season. These events include more opportunities to play on artificial turf fields and the opportunity for teams to vie for the coveted title of Maryland State Champion in June. And all of these events will qualify teams to go on to compete in USSSA National Events. More information about these events can be found at www.usssa.com
